W2 vs W4 Proportion
The model compares W4 against W2 in both price and time.
A W4 correction can slightly exceed W2 in price, as long as the correction remains controlled in time.
A W4 correction can also take longer than W2 in time, as long as the correction does not also become larger than W2 in price.
But if W4 becomes larger than W2 in both price and time, that is a hard invalidation of W4 potential.
This matters because W4 is supposed to be a continuation pullback, not a full structural reset. If the trend is truly continuing, the next pullback should usually be smaller than, similar to, or only modestly larger than the prior major correction.
You want to see strength not only during the advance, but also during the correction. A controlled pullback shows that buyers are still stepping in aggressively during a bullish setup, or that sellers are still defending aggressively during a bearish setup.
If W4 is both larger and longer than W2, the market is likely correcting at a higher degree rather than forming a clean W4 continuation pullback.
Simple Rule
W4 can slightly exceed W2 in price.

But W4 cannot be both bigger and longer than W2.

What The W4/W5 Model Does
The W4/W5 Model is a rule-based Elliott Wave continuation indicator designed to identify potential Wave 4 pullback zones before a possible Wave 5 continuation move.
It helps traders answer:
- Is there a valid 0-1-2-3 structure?
- Is price pulling into a usable W4 zone?
- Where is the setup invalidated?
- Where can W5 potentially target if continuation begins?
Plain-English read
The indicator looks for a developed trend sequence, waits for a retracement from Point 3, then highlights the area where a Wave 4 pullback may become useful. If price later continues beyond Point 3, the model can shift into W5 management mode.
Simple Workflow
Find the setup → wait for the W4 pullback → use Inv. for risk → if W5 activates, use MB for management → use targets to pay yourself, trail risk, or reassess.
What The Model Shows
The model maps a potential 0-1-2-3 trend sequence, tracks the W4 pullback, and then monitors a possible W5 continuation.
Point 0
The origin of the current active trend sequence. It should not be a random historical high/low or a later point chosen only to force a count.
Point 1
The first directional push away from Point 0.
Point 2
The pullback after Point 1, used to help define the Wave 1 and Wave 2 relationship.
Point 3
The next trend extreme after Point 2. This is the Wave 3 point that price later retraces from.
Point 4 / W4
The pullback area after Point 3. This is where the setup box and invalidation logic matter most.
Point 5 / W5
The continuation phase after price moves beyond Point 3 and begins forming a potential fifth wave.
Bullish Point 0
For bullish setups, Point 0 is the origin low of the current bullish trend sequence before Point 1.
Bearish Point 0
For bearish setups, Point 0 is the origin high of the current bearish trend sequence before Point 1.

The Setup Status Box scans multiple timeframes and summarizes whether each timeframe has a relevant W4/W5 setup.

Scanner Display Controls
Setup Display Filter lets you choose what the scanner shows: All, Active Only, or Tracking Only.
Status Box Position lets you move the scanner table around the chart so it does not cover the area you are studying.
The current chart timeframe can still display its setup and grade even when that timeframe's MTF scanner toggle is off.
Alerts
The latest version includes scanner-based alerts for fresh Active W4 setups that match the selected alert settings.
Alerts are not trade signals. They are notifications that a fresh Active W4 setup appeared so you can review the chart.
The alert system is designed to fire when a setup first becomes an Active W4 setup under your selected filters. It should not be treated as an alert for every Tracking setup, every W5 setup, or every bar while a setup remains active.
What Alerts Check
- Enable Custom Scanner Alert is turned on.
- The setup is Active, not just Tracking.
- The setup is in W4 state, not W5 state.
- The setup direction is allowed by the Bias Filter.
- The setup grade matches the Alert Grade Filter.
- The setup timeframe is enabled in Alert Filters.
Supported Alert Timeframes
The current public alert workflow is for 1D, H4, H1, M30, M15, and M5.
M3 and M1 are scanner/display rows in this release, not alert timeframes. Monthly and Weekly can appear in the scanner, but the live alert workflow described here should be treated as limited to the supported alert timeframes.
Alert Grade Filter
The Alert Grade Filter controls how selective the scanner alert should be. It does not make the setup a guaranteed trade.

Alert Setup Workflow
- Open the indicator settings.
- Scroll to Alert Filters.
- Turn on Enable Custom Scanner Alert.
- Choose the Alert Grade Filter.
- Choose the timeframe filters.
- Click OK.
- Click the three dots next to the indicator.
- Click Add alert on W4/W5 Model.
- Use the alert() function call option.
- Create the alert.
Why Didn't I Get An Alert?
If you expected an alert but did not receive one, check these items before opening a support ticket:
- The setup may have been Tracking, not Active.
- The setup may have already been active before the alert was created.
- The setup may have been in W5 state, not W4 state.
- The grade may not have matched the selected Alert Grade Filter.
- The timeframe may not have been enabled in Alert Filters.
- The Bias Filter may have excluded that direction.
- The indicator settings may have changed after the TradingView alert was created.
- The TradingView alert may not have been created with the alert() function call option.
- The alert may need to be deleted and recreated after settings changes.
Why Nothing May Be Showing
If nothing is showing on the chart, that does not automatically mean the indicator is broken.
The W4/W5 Model only plots when a valid structure is detected under the current settings. The first place to look is the Setup Status Box.
If the scanner shows no Tracking or Active setup on that timeframe, then there may simply be no valid W4/W5 structure currently available.
Use the scanner first:
- Check whether any higher timeframe has a Tracking or Active setup.
- Click into that timeframe.
- Confirm whether the setup is Bullish or Bearish.
- Check the Status, Grade, and State.
- If nothing is listed, move to another symbol or wait for structure to develop.
Tracking vs Active Setups
Tracking
Tracking is an early heads up.
It means the model has found a potential 0-1-2-3 structure and price has started pulling back from W3. The setup is not fully active yet, but the model is now watching to see whether W4 develops into a valid continuation zone.
In the current version, tracking can begin once the W4 pullback reaches roughly 10% of the W3 move.
Tracking helps you prepare. It is not the same as an active W4 setup.
Active
Active means the pullback is deep enough to matter.
In the current version, active status begins once the W4 pullback reaches the main activation zone, starting around the 23.6% retracement of W3.
Active is when the setup becomes more actionable because the pullback has developed further and the W4 zone is more defined.
Setup Box
The setup box is the expected W4 area. In bullish setups, it appears below W3. In bearish setups, it appears above W3.
The setup box is not a buy button. It is the area where you start looking for confirmation.
Use the box as the area to study for possible continuation entries. Better setups usually have clean structure, proportional W4 behavior, FVG confluence, and clear invalidation.
Bullish setup
Price rallies into Point 3, then pulls back into a box below W3 while the bullish structure remains valid.
Bearish setup
Price sells into Point 3, then retraces upward into a box above W3 while the bearish structure remains valid.
Invalidation
The invalidation label appears as Inv. (price). It marks the level where the original W4 setup should no longer be treated as valid.
Inv. is the level where the setup is wrong. If price breaks invalidation, stop forcing the count.
The W4 invalidation level is dynamic.
The model does not simply use one fixed rule. It compares the W4 pullback against both the W3 retracement limit and the proportional size of W2.
In simple terms, the model asks:
- Has W4 retraced too deeply into W3?
- Has W4 become too large compared to W2?
The active invalidation level is whichever rule creates the stricter level.
For example, if W2 declined 22%, but allowing W4 to decline 22% would push price beyond the 50% retracement of W3, then the 50% retracement of W3 becomes the invalidation point.
This prevents the model from allowing a W4 pullback to remain valid if it has already retraced too deeply into W3.
Dynamic Invalidation Rule
W4 invalidation is based on the stricter of two limits:
- The maximum allowed retracement of W3.
- The proportional size of W2.
If the W3 retracement limit is tighter, that becomes invalidation.
If the W2 proportion limit is tighter, that becomes invalidation.
This is why the setup box may invalidate before W4 reaches the full size of W2.
Invalidation matters more than targets. If a setup invalidates, do not force it back into your plan just because the structure looked good earlier.
One reason a setup may disappear is W4 proportion. If W4 becomes larger than W2 in both price and time, that is a hard invalidation for the W4/W5 setup. At that point, the model treats the move as a higher-degree correction and begins looking for a different structure.
MB — Momentum Break
MB stands for Momentum Break. MB appears after W5 begins and marks the 50% retracement of the active W5 move from Point 4 to Point 5.
Momentum Break is basically the new invalidation point after W5 activates.
Before W5 starts, the original Inv. label is the main risk level for the W4 setup. Once W5 activates, the setup has moved from entry/setup mode into management mode. At that point, MB becomes the new key level to watch.
That is why the original Inv. label becomes faded after W5 activates, while the MB label becomes brighter and more important.
If price holds MB, W5 momentum is still intact. If price crosses MB, W5 momentum has broken and the move may be complete or entering a larger pullback.
How to use MB
Once W5 begins, the original W4 setup has already done its job. At that point, the focus shifts from entry to trade management.
MB gives you a simple risk-management line for the W5 move. If price respects MB, W5 momentum remains intact. If price crosses MB, the W5 move is losing momentum and may be complete.
- Use the setup box for the W4 entry zone.
- Use Inv. to define the original W4 setup risk.
- Use MB to manage the W5 move after continuation begins.
- If MB breaks, reduce risk, trail stops, or reassess the setup.

Simple read: Inv. is the invalidation level before W5 starts. MB is the new invalidation / momentum level after W5 starts.
FVG Confluence
The model can show fair value gap confluence near or inside the W4 setup area.
The wave count tells you the structure. The FVG gives you a cleaner reaction area. The best setups usually have both.
Because W4 is a counter-trend pullback, the strongest FVG confluence is W4-zone confluence. The cleaner setup is when price pulls into the W4 zone and reacts from a meaningful FVG near or inside the setup box / ideal retracement zone before or around the W4 reaction.
For bullish setups, the model is looking for bullish FVG support near the W4 zone.
For bearish setups, the model is looking for bearish FVG resistance near the W4 zone.
A random FVG that forms later during W5 can still be useful for continuation management, but it should not be treated as the reason the original W4 setup became A+.
If there is no meaningful W4-zone FVG aligned with the setup box or common retracement levels, the setup is lower quality.
FVG confluence is a modifier, not a standalone signal. The setup box tells you where W4 can form. The FVG tells you why W4 may reverse from that area.
W5 Targets
The script includes a Show W5 Targets toggle, a W5 Target Scale setting for Linear or Log, and a W5 Target Display setting for Primary Only or Show All. It also includes an optional W5 Extension Target, which measures 100% of W1 and W3.
Primary Only
Cleaner for most users. In the current script, the primary target labels are .50 of W3 and .618 of W3.
Show All
Useful for studying extended W5 moves. The expanded view can include:
- .50 of 0-3
- .618 of 0-3
- .618 of W1
- 1.00 of 0-3
- W1 = W5
W5 Extension Target
Optional for users who want an additional extension projection. This target represents 100% of W1 and W3.
Targets are not guaranteed tops or bottoms. They are areas to pay yourself, trail risk, or reassess the move.
W5 Trendlines
The latest version includes a Show W5 Trendlines toggle.
W5 Trendlines appear after W5 begins. They help visualize the active W5 continuation structure after price breaks beyond Point 3.
These trendlines/channels help users monitor whether the W5 advance or decline remains organized. They are a structure and management tool, not an entry signal by themselves.
Bullish W5
Trendlines help track whether the W5 advance remains organized after price breaks above Point 3.
Bearish W5
Trendlines help track whether the W5 decline remains organized after price breaks below Point 3.
Grades
Grades are a quality filter, not a prediction.
The grade helps rank the quality of the W4/W5 structure the model is detecting. A higher grade means the structure is cleaner, more proportional, and has better confirmation. A lower grade means the structure is weaker, immature, compressed, missing confluence, or less ideal.
Grades do not guarantee that a setup will work. They are designed to help traders stay selective.
Grades are dynamic. The model grades the setup based on the current price action, so the grade can change as the structure develops.
A D-grade setup can improve into an A-grade setup if W4 develops, proportion improves, FVG confluence appears, and the structure becomes cleaner. The opposite can also happen. An A-grade setup can downgrade if price action weakens, W4 becomes too compressed or too deep, FVG confluence fails, or the structure starts to lose quality.
Retail Grade Read
A = cleanest setup
B = usable setup
C = caution setup
D = weak / context-only setup
Simple Read
A-grade setups have clean structure, strong W3 expansion, a developed W4 pullback, strong W4/W2 proportion, no overlap, and meaningful FVG confluence.
B-grade setups are usable, but usually have one or two imperfections.
C-grade setups are lower quality and require more caution.
D-grade setups are weak, immature, compressed, diagonal/context-only, or not suitable as standalone trade setups.
Grades Can Change
The grade is not permanent.
It updates as price action develops. A weak early setup can improve if W4 matures and reacts from the right area. A strong setup can downgrade if the structure weakens, loses proportion, or breaks key model rules.
Use grades as a live quality read, not a fixed label.
Grading Breakdown
The model grades the setup by looking at the wave structure, W3 expansion, W4 maturity, W4/W2 proportion, FVG confluence, lifecycle state, and hard caps.

A lower grade does not mean price cannot move. It means the setup is not clean enough to treat as high confidence.

Wave Modes
Wave Modes decide how much W3 needs to expand compared with W1 before a potential W4/W5 structure can qualify. There are three modes.
Expansion
The strictest mode. W3 must extend at least 150% of W1.
This is best for cleaner, stronger impulsive structures where you only want larger W3 extensions to qualify.
Standard
The default/original behavior. W3 must extend at least 100% of W1.
This keeps the model aligned with the original W4/W5 logic.
Diagonal
The most flexible mode. W3 must extend at least 61.8% of W1.
This is intended for diagonal-style structures where W3 does not need to fully extend beyond W1 by the same amount.
Important Diagonal Mode Note
Diagonal Mode is designed to add wave-count flexibility, not to replace the primary W4/W5 trading model.
On higher-degree timeframes such as Monthly and Weekly charts, the correct current wave count may form as a diagonal-style structure where W3 does not reach the Standard or Expansion requirement. In those cases, Diagonal Mode can still reveal the broader wave count.
That does not automatically make it the highest-probability W4/W5 trade setup.
Because W3 is less extended, diagonal setups will generally grade weaker, often as D-grade structures. That is intentional.
Use Diagonal Mode primarily for higher-timeframe bias, education, and wave-count context. Do not treat it as a standalone lower-timeframe trading signal.
Expansion Mode is the strictest W3 extension filter. Standard Mode matches the original W4/W5 behavior. Diagonal Mode helps reveal flexible higher-timeframe wave-count context.

Linear vs Log
Linear
Linear measures raw point movement. It is usually fine for ES, SPX, NQ, YM, and major index futures where point-based movement is the main trading reference.
Log
Log measures proportional percentage movement. It can be more useful for growth stocks, crypto, or high-volatility names where percentage change matters more than raw points.
Best Practices
Build context first
- Start with higher timeframes.
- Use Daily, H4, and H1 for context.
- Drop to M15, M5, or M3 for execution.
- Use the setup box as the entry zone, not the W5 label.
Stay selective
- Do not take every setup.
- Use invalidation first.
- Treat FVGs as confluence.
- Do not force a setup after invalidation.
Do
- Start with higher timeframes.
- Wait for price to reach the setup box.
- Respect invalidation.
- Use MB after W5 activates.
- Use targets to manage the trade.
Don't
- Treat the setup box as an automatic entry.
- Chase W5 after the move is extended.

Using Opposite-Direction Setups
Not every setup is meant to be traded in isolation.
Sometimes the model will show a higher-timeframe setup in one direction and a lower-timeframe setup in the opposite direction. This does not always mean the model is contradicting itself.
Opposite-direction setups can be useful because they provide clear invalidation levels.
For example, if the higher timeframe is bullish but a lower-timeframe bearish setup is active, that bearish setup gives you a clear level to watch. If price invalidates the bearish setup, that can support the higher-timeframe bullish thesis.
The lower-timeframe setup becomes the test.
If bears can hold the bearish setup, the higher-timeframe bullish case may need more time.
If bears lose the bearish setup, that invalidation can act as confirmation that the higher-timeframe bullish structure is taking control.
Simple Rule
When higher and lower timeframes disagree, do not assume the model is broken.
Use the lower-timeframe opposite-direction setup as an invalidation map.
If the lower-timeframe setup invalidates, it may support the higher-timeframe thesis.

The key is not to blindly trade both directions. The key is to understand what each timeframe is telling you. Higher timeframes provide the larger thesis. Lower timeframes often provide the invalidation map.

If TradingView shows this message, your TradingView username usually did not sync correctly:

The model only plots when a valid structure is detected under the current settings. Check that the correct direction is enabled in Bias Filter, the timeframe has enough data, and the market has a usable 0-1-2-3 sequence.
Why did the setup disappear?
A setup can disappear after invalidation, structure failure, completion, or lifecycle cleanup. If price moves through the invalidation area, the script should stop treating that W4 setup as valid.
Why do H1 and H4 sometimes show the same setup?
Higher and lower timeframes can overlap when the same broader structure is visible across both charts. The scanner is summarizing relevant setups by timeframe, not guaranteeing each row is a completely separate trade idea.
Why is the setup box different on different timeframes?
Each timeframe has different candles, pivots, and swing structure. That can change Point 0 through Point 3, W4 depth, invalidation, FVG confluence, and the box location.
Should I use Linear or Log?
Use Linear when raw point movement is the cleaner reference, especially for major index futures. Use Log when percentage movement is more important, such as crypto, high-volatility growth stocks, or long-term charts.
Is this a buy/sell signal?
No. The indicator is a structure and continuation model. Grades help rank setup quality, but they are not buy/sell signals. Entries still require your own execution rules, risk plan, and confirmation process.
Why is a setup showing a low grade even though it looks good?
The model may be capping the grade because of W4 maturity, W4/W2 proportion, time compression, weak W3 expansion, missing FVG confluence, overlap, or because the setup is still only Tracking. The grade is based on the full rule set, not just how clean the wave count looks visually.
Why didn't I get an alert?
The setup may have been only Tracking, already active before the alert was created, in W5 state instead of W4 state, below your selected grade filter, on a timeframe that was not enabled, or excluded by the Bias Filter. Also confirm the TradingView alert was created with the alert() function call option. If you changed settings after creating the alert, delete and recreate it.
Does W5 mean I should enter?
No. W5 means continuation may have started or is being tracked by the model. It is not an instruction to enter by itself.
What does MB mean?
MB means Momentum Break. It appears after W5 begins and marks the 50% retracement level of the active W5 move from Point 4 to Point 5. Traders can use it as a trailing-risk reference. If price crosses MB, that is a warning that W5 momentum has broken and the move may be complete or entering a larger pullback.
What does Inv. mean?
Inv. means invalidation. It is the price level where the original W4 setup should no longer be treated as valid.
Why does the scanner show a setup but I do not see much on the chart?
The scanner may detect a timeframe setup that is developing, compact, or not visually obvious on the current chart. Switch to the scanner timeframe and check whether the setup is Tracking or Active.
Which timeframe should I use?
Use higher timeframes for the main structure and lower timeframes for execution. A practical workflow is Daily/H4/H1 for context, then M15/M5/M3 for entry refinement.
